TESL Ontario Home

Dear TESL Ontario Members,

For some of us, summer is a time to rejuvenate. The demands of life seem less stressful on sunny warm days. For others, summer presents an opportunity to work in a different part of the ESL field, or maybe even to work for the first time!

This summer, I am taking time to reflect upon the first six months of my term as Chair. I can say that I am very pleased with our efforts. The new governance model has provided us with the time to devote to what is really important to us – our members. At all of our Board of Directors’ meetings we have focused on improving the ways we engage and serve TESL Ontario members. The recent addition of a Member Services Manager to the office staff of TESL Ontario has given us the capacity to provide members with the best service possible.

We have not only focused on meeting the immediate needs of our members, however. This summer the Board of Directors is working with a consultant to develop a strategic plan that will move us into the second decade of the twenty-first century as a leading national and international professional organization in the field of English as a Second Language.

It is a very exciting time to be a member of the Board of Directors. Have you ever thought about joining the Board of Directors? We are currently seeking three directors for the 2010-2011 Board. If you are a member of TESL Ontario with experience in the field of ESL and a vision for the future of the profession and TESL Ontario, I strongly encourage you to go to http://www.teslontario.org/board-vacancies/.

Whatever you are doing this summer, I hope that you find time to relax and revive!

All the best for a wonderful summer.

Sheila Nicholas
Chair
