Belleville ESL Week

In celebration of cultural diversity, the Quinte Community Resource Centre, which is the location for LINC and adult ESL programs, is holding a multicultural fair on Thursday November 6th, 2008, 11:00am - 1:00pm.

They are networking with local schools and inviting them to bring students to the Centre for a tour. There will be a display with information about second language learning, cultural demonstrations and a Quinte Immigrant Service (QUIS) table. Various local politicians are also invited.

Kingston ESL Week

Limestone Community Education Centre Open House, Thursday November 6th, 2008, 10:00am - 2:00pm. The Centre is showcasing adult English as a second language and upgrading programs. There will be music, food and cultural presentations from a variety of countries and cultures.

Immigrant Services Kingston and Area (ISKA) is the location for a community celebration and reception entitled, Honouring our Multicultural Community. It takes place on Thursday November 6th, 2008, 4:00pm - 6:00pm. The focus is on acknowledging the many contributions immigrants have made to the Kingston community. There will be a display with pictures of ESL classes that take place throughout the city. A selection of individuals will be invited to speak about their experiences learning English and adapting to Canadian culture.

London Affiliate - Writing & Poster Contest


North York/York Region

The North York/York Region Affiliate will be holding a mini fall conference on Wednesday October 15th as part of our celebration of ESL.

Our members have many different activities organized for ESL Week in November. Many of them are having international days which give the students an opportunity to present their countries and culture. Some will be having pot luck lunches and dinners, poster contests, writing contests, international music nights creating display boards in the classroom, and open houses at their schools. Everybody will be very busy embracing all of the different cultures in our communities.

ESL Spell - The 2008 Adult ESL Spelling Competition

The Registration deadline has been extended to Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 12 AM Midnight, to accommodate those whom we were unable to reach in our first mailout of information.

A Call for ESL Spell Volunteers


The Toronto District School Board is hosting a citizenship ceremony during ESL Week 2008:

Citizenship Ceremony at the North York Civic Centre, Council Chambers on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.

There will also be a Celebration of Cultures:

"Celebration of Cultures" at Bathurst Heights auditorium on Monday, November 10, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.


Windsor

The University of Windsor opened the Centre of English Language Development. at the tail end of ESL week. This building has been designated for the English Language Improvement Program. Students participated in the festivities by providing live presentations on how learning English has changed their lives. Other students offered guests guided tours throughout the building and provided guests with brochures that they had made in class.

A large banner was also purchased with the building's name on it. Each student added their hand-print to the banner representing the diversity within our program.
